Training mature aged students – what’s so different? A trainers story

Training mature students

New Year!  New Career?

Why you should consider Bookkeeping.

Tarryn our Training Coordinator at WiseClick wanted to chat to you today about her experience training mature aged students wanting to make a career change and return to the workforce.

With so many people wanting that perfect work/life balance Tarryn has experienced first hand the benefits of completing a Certificate IV course in Bookkeeping or Accounting at WiseClick Training (a nationally registered training organisation in Balcatta).

Running two service stations and a home office with her mother, Tarryn knew she needed to know more about the correct way to run the business and manage the books and payroll.  Payroll was such a headache! Were they paying their casuals correctly, who worked last week?  These types of questions are a constant headache to most business owners.

Tarryn and her mother both decided that they needed to know more, and Mum dove in the deep end and returned to study first at 50 years young.   She loved it and passed with flying colours!   WiseClick were able to give her the flexible study option of attending just one day a week in the classroom and completing the assessments in her own time at home.  With lots of other mature aged students the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.  Mum was so impressed she persuaded Tarryn to follow suit and enroll.

Tarryn was a star student and her natural teaching ability was noticed immediately.  Tarryn was encouraged by the WiseClick trainers to consider gaining her training an assessment qualification as a possible career option.  Being trained by experienced bookkeepers and accountants meant that when Tarryn made the transition to becoming a trainer she knew there was plenty of assistance and backup right from the start.  This type of personal interaction along with the resume assistance and Job Placement Register at WiseClick means that every student is recognised as unique and important.

Cheryl Knight and the mostly female team at WiseClick know just how hard it is to manage looking after family, business and that all important school pickup. You can study school hours and this suits most business owners as well.  Hours are school friendly with 9am – 2.30pm classroom times.  Plus Wiseclick know that most people can’t concentrate for more than 6 hours (with breaks of course) on new concepts.

The student support options including after hours  and weekend phone assistance has given WiseClick Training double the national pass rate for their Certificate IV in Bookkeeping qualification.

Tarryn just loves her new career as a full time trainer at WiseClick.   Seeing the change in the students from day one nerves and self doubt to confident, work ready professionals at the end of the training is the most rewarding part of her job.

Feel free to give her a ring to discuss how you can start your new career.
